Over the last five years, the Spiegelau International Wine Competition has brought people and wine together from all over the globe in a celebration of the international world of wine.
In 2016, the organisers, Marg and Belinda of Wine Competition Ltd have decided to put the event on hold due to increased commitments. There simply aren't enough hours in the day or days in the week to do everything to the high standards they set themselves. It is their desire to therefore focus solely on the Marlborough Wine Show.
“…they say that all great things must come to an end…
Due to BJ’s and Marg’s overriding work commitments, they’ve decided that they’re going to concentrate solely on the Marlborough Wine Show.
The Spiegelau has been one of the best, if not the best, run show on both sides of the Tasman, that I’ve had the privilege of being involved with.
It’s had serious like minded wine judges, where egos didn’t get in the way of absolute wine quality and technical excellence, and where teamwork was the ethos.
The Spegelau was groundbreaking - specialist wine glasses for individual wine varieties; serious and formal training/ feedback for Associate wine show judges; and the sale of leftover and un-tasted wines, where the proceeds went into a Trust Fund to benefit the Wine Industry of NZ.
...I’ll miss it”
